With every project we go through an iterative design process and in the Car People's brand film, a friendly and approachable vibe was key. We worked closely with the brand and agency to ensure the characters represented those all important values.
We put this 4 stage comparison edit together to give an insight into our workflow. Each process is iterative, just like the character design and 3d build stage. We also ensure there are key sign off points throughout our production process; it is after all a collaboration between studio, agency and client.
The Car People Characters were designed and built in 2012 for the original brand advert and one of the advantages to working in 3d is the ability to re-use assets. We've made sure Martin and the team of characters have grown and developed over time, polishing and refining rigs, tweaking hair and bringing in little considerations here and there that ensure the assets are fresh whilst still consistent to the original look created in 2012.
In 2015 Martin and the gang went into the real world, animated and composited into the Sheffield Showroom for 'How Car Buying Should Be'. Bringing the characters into live action adds several layers of workflow to a production. We've put together these makings of 'How Car Buying Should Be' to give an insight into how we did it.
