with Dr. Katie Mack
Also known as Astro Katie, Dr Mack is a theoretical astrophysicist who studies a range of questions in cosmology, the study of the universe from beginning to end. She currently holds the position of Hawking Chair in Cosmology and Science Communication at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, where she carries out research on dark matter and the early universe and works to make physics more accessible to the general public.
On Constructs, Dr. Katie Mack:
There were two themes I really wanted to touch on in my poem. One was that of taking a closer look at everyday objects, at the atomic level, which was based on the description I was given for the intended animation. I essentially wanted to get into how a physicist might see the world, in that light.
The other theme I wanted to work in was that of the importance of information and knowledge, since the video would be highlighting the way Finger Industries productions can be used for scientific illustrations and explanations. I wanted to convey that, ultimately, EVERYTHING is information, and so being able to work with that and convey knowledge is incredibly powerful. As both a physicist and a science communicator, I am keenly aware of how important it is to not only understand something, but to pass on the information clearly.
